Questions Patients Ask Everyday About ChiropracticYou Only Get One Body, Treat it Well
Chiropractic will help improve your quality of life!
How Does Chiropractic Work?
Chiropractic works because you are a self-healing, self regulating organism controlled by your nervous system. Millions of instructions flow from your brain, down the spinal cord and out to every organ and tissue. Signals sent back to the brain confirm if your body is working right.
The body can get improper motion or position of the moving bones of the spine. Specific spinal adjustments can help improve motion. We have seen health often returns with improved nervous system control of the body.
How Do You Get Misalignments?
There are three basic causes of misalignment: Physical, Chemical and Mental. Physical causes could include slips and falls, accidents, repetitive motions and improper lifting. Chemical causes could include alcohol, pollutions and poor diet. Emotions such grief, anger and fear.
Can misalignment Clear Up On Their Own?
Sometimes. Today’s hectic lifestyles are a constant source of misalignment. Fortunately, our bodies have the ability to self-correct many of these problems as we bend and stretch, or when we sleep at night. When misalignments don’t resolve, you need to see a Doctor of Chiropractic. Most people that care about their health are under regular Chiropractic care. This way your chiropractor can detect and correct misalignments before your health is affected or pain occurs. A Chiropractor is the only one specifically training to detect and correct (misalignments) to improve the body toward better health.

Research shows Chiropractic care is even safer!
Do I Have A Pinched Nerve?
A pinched nerve is rare. It is more likely that an adjacent spinal bone irritates, stretches, rubs or chafes a nerve. This can produce unhealthy alterations to the organs and tissues connected by the affected nerves.
Do I have a slipped Disc?
The disc is a soft pulpy “shock absorber”. It has a fibrous outer ring which holds in a jelly-like material. A “slipped disc” is a common way to refer to a wide variety of disc problems. However, a disc can’t slip because of the way it attaches to the spinal bones above and below it. A disc can bulge. It can tare. It can herniate. It can thin. It can dry out. It can collapse. But it can’t slip.
The Chiropractic Adjustment
The Doctor of Chiropractic is the only one who specifically detects and corrects misalignments in the spine.
What is an Adjustment?
Chiropractic adjustments usually involve a quick thrust that helps add motion to spinal joints that aren’t moving right. Some methods use the doctor’s hands, an instrument, a special table or the force of gravity. There are many ways to adjust the spine.
Will Adjustments Make My Spine Too Loose?
Not usually. Only the spinal joints that are “locked up” receive adjustments. This allows weakened muscles and ligaments to stabilize and heal. At our Posture Correction Workshop, Dr. Brock will show you stabilization exercises that will help strengthen your muscles and you spinal stability.
Are All Patients Adjusted The Same Way?
No. Each patient’s spine and care plan is unique. With 24 moving bones in the spine, each of which can move in seven different directions, we see a wide variety of spinal patterns. Each patient’s care is custom-tailored for their age, condition and health goals.
Can I Adjust Myself?
No. Some people can make their joints “pop,” but that’s not an adjustment! Worse, damage can occur by mobilizing a joint with weakened muscles and ligaments. Adjustments are specific and take years to master. Even Dr. Brock gets adjusted by his Chiropractor.
Are Chiropractic Adjustments Safe?
Yes. Many studies prove the effectiveness of Chiropractic. A recent New Zealand government study found that adjustments are “remarkably safe”. By avoiding drugs and risky surgery, chiropractic care enjoys an excellent track record. A thorough exam can identify the rare person for whom chiropractic care might be unsuited.
What Makes The Sound During The Adjustment?
Lubricating fluids separate the bones of each spinal joint. Some adjusting methods can produce a sound when the gas and fluids in the joint shift. It’s much like opening a bottle of champagne or removing a suction cup. The sound is interesting, but it isn’t a guide to the quality or value of the adjustment.
How Many Adjustments Will I Need?
The number of adjustments varies with each patient and their individual health goals. Many patients sense progress within a week or two of frequent visits. Visits become less often as your spine stabilizes. In chronic cases, complete healing can take months or even year. For most people who care about their health, Chiropractic becomes a lifestyle. By applying the principles of Inside-Out living your health will sore!
Healthy Nervous System = Health
Above-Down, Inside-Out
The nervous system, life and healing flows from Above-Down, and expresses itself Inside-Out. The Chiropractic philosophy of inside-out living is that the body can heal from anything as long as there is no interference from above-down inside-out. The fact is that your body has everything in it already that is needed to function, heal and recreate normal tissue. Misalignments in the spine interfere with the bodies ability to self regulate through the nervous system. The Chiropractor delivers the adjustment, removing the pressure off of the nervous system, allowing the body to correct itself from the inside out. Healing is a process of recreating yourself one cell at a time, over time.
Outside-In, Below-Up
The Mechanistic Model that conventional health care follows is Outside-In thinking. If your heart rate or blood pressure is too high, you take a pill from the outside to lower it. If it’s too low, you take something to increase it. These pills are produced to try to regulate and maintain your body at a rate that man thinks is normal for you. However, the cause of the the problem needs to be corrected before it can be cured and most medications are not prescribed to cure the cause, but only treat the symptom.
What Our Patients Are Saying

Why Do Newborns Get Adjusted?
Even today’s “natural” childbirth methods can affect an infant’s spine. Unusual crying, being more content in the care seat, regular digestion and going to the bathroom, pulling at the ear or erratic sleeping habits are all symptoms that we have seen change in our office. Pediatric adjustments are gentle. Knowing exactly where to adjust, the doctor applies no more pressure than you’d use to test the ripeness of a tomato.
How Long Until I’ll Feel Better?
A lot of patients who come to the clinic don’t have pain. They understand the Chiropractic Principles and are seeing amazing wellness results that they never knew could be achieved. Some who have pain, experience almost instant relief. Others discover it can take a few weeks or months. Many factors can affect the healing process. How long have you had your problem? Are you keeping your appointments? Are you getting the proper rest, exercise and nutrition? Do you smoke? Are you in otherwise good condition? Within a short period of time, most patients sense enough progress to fully progress to fully carry out their doctor’s recommendations.
Can Patients With Osteoporosis Get Chiropractic Care?
Of course! When developing a care plan, your Doctor of Chiropractic considers the unique circumstances of each patient. There are many ways to adjust the spine. The method selected will be best suited to your age, size and condition.

Will I Receive Any Medication For My Pain?
No. Chiropractic is a drug free profession. Chiropractors don’t dispense drugs. The adjustment often relieves pain. Because we rely on natural methods, we can show you how to use ice or other methods to control painful symptoms.
